Happy Friday! Friday is usually the most popular day of the week but since my due date is on a Friday, it usually gives me an extra reason to be excited. We are officially one day out from this little lady’s due date (even though I know that less than 5% of babies are born on their actual due date) and I think we’re all pretty ready to get this show on the road! I forgot to do a recap last week but I did manage to put a picture on Instagram.
Every day feels a bit like a waiting game so we’ve been trying to stay busy. I’ve been either walking on the treadmill or taking Daisy for a walk almost every day (even if it doesn’t put me into labor, at least it keeps me from going too stir crazy).
Daisy has been extra sweet lately and my mom thinks it’s because she knows that something’s going to happen. Either way, she’s been getting extra attention from Shane and me lately.
We also went to Film on the Rocks on Monday and saw the Hunger Games. I’ve only been to FOTR once and that was the summer after high school and Shane had never been so we decided to get tickets since I’m pretty sure this is our last chance to go this summer before the baby comes. There is live music for about an hour and a half and then the movie starts at dusk. We ended up leaving before the movie was over so that we could beat the crowds but we didn’t make it home until after midnight- party animals!
Last night there was a block party in our new neighborhood so we went to meet our soon-to-be neighbors. Our neighborhood is split up into several “blocks” for several different occasions, including the upcoming Battle of the Blocks! It takes place the first week of August so I won’t be participating but Shane signed up for a few events. We’re both pretty competitive so we were glad to hear that our team takes it pretty seriously .
I made some homemade salsa to bring with us and combined a couple different recipes that I found online since this was my first attempt. I didn’t use any specific measurements, just chopped stuff up, mixed it together and then adjusted accordingly.
- Tomatoes (I used 3 large ones)
- Red onion
- Mango (I only used a little since I am not a huge mango salsa fan)
I don’t know why I waited this long to make my own salsa since it is ridiculously easy and you can easily swap out ingredients based on preference. I usually stick to guacamole since it’s my favorite (and I’ve got that recipe down) but I didn’t want it to start browning during the BBQ.
Keeping the theme of fresh summer flavors going, this morning I made a Pineapple Lime protein smoothie. I usually stick to banana-based smoothies but we are out so I just looked around to see what we had on hand.
- Almond milk (unsweetened plain)
- Key lime yogurt (I used Light Yoplait but would usually opt for Greek)
- Vanilla protein powder (not sure of the brand but it’s my sister’s vegan brand)
- frozen pineapple
I figured that this could turn out awesome or kinda gross and luckily it was awesome! A few variations could be made to this smoothie based on preference but I could see adding strawberries or throwing a little shredded coconut on top.
Anyone have any tried and true methods for getting labor started?
Any last things we should try to do before the baby is born?
