This morning I decided to make a hearty breakfast since I knew that I had a lot on my agenda and I didn’t want to be hungry again in just an hour. First up was a small batch of oatmeal with nuts and raisins. Oatmeal is not something that I automatically think of in the morning but it does help keep me full.
I also whipped up a quick protein smoothie, using different frozen fruits that we had in the freezer.
Ingredients:
-Almond milk (unsweetened regular)
-1 scoop vanilla protein powder
-Frozen strawberries, bananas, peaches, and mangos
This was quite a filling breakfast and I ended up saving the second half of the smoothie for a snack a little while later.
After breakfast and some work around the house, I took Daisy and Molly to the dog park and man, was it packed! One of my favorite things about Coloradoans is their need to be outside. As soon as that first sunny, warm day pokes its head out in winter, everyone is our and about in their shorts, looking for a rooftop bar somewhere. Today I saw so many people running, walking, biking, and just out and about in general.
Usually the parking lot at the dog park has maybe 5 other cars, but today it was packed and people started having to get creative with how they parked their cars. Daisy and Molly had tons of other dogs to play with so we ended up being there for about an hour.
After running a bunch of errands, I headed over to Subway to pick up a late lunch. Thanks to my huge breakfast, I wasn’t hungry until almost 2pm. This is actually the first time I’ve had Subway in several weeks and I was worried that this baby was trying to get me away from one of my favorite places to grab a bite. Luckily it seems that it was just the turkey (when pregnant, you’re supposed to warm up deli meat and I’m not a fan of heated turkey) and today’s chicken breast sandwich hit the spot.
When I was at the grocery store, I couldn’t help but to grab some watermelon. We could blame it on cravings but I’m pretty sure it was the nice weather that had me thinking about summer fruits. I am currently suffering from a watermelon overdose and I can’t wait until they become seasonal again!
Shane’s wrestling meet got done early today so he and I are planning to get a run in since it is still so nice out. I don’t think I’ve run outside since my 7 mile run on Thanksgiving so this should be interesting!
Shane’s birthday is on Tuesday and his mom is flying in tomorrow to help us get the house ready to be sold, so he and I are going out tonight to celebrate. I have a Groupon to a Mexican restaurant and since I won’t be drinking, that’s a lot of margaritas for him!
Question:
What are your favorite things about summer?
Do you have any races coming up?
Have you been running inside or outside?

I could eat watermelon and strawberries non-stop. Today was nice enough for an outside run, but the cold weather has kept me inside lately. My favorite thing about summer is going to the riverfront amphitheater to listen to live music!
well i had oatmeal this morning too!
i hope ur run went well, i’ve been running outside myself but i’m on the west coast and so the weather isn’t nearly as insane as states with ‘real’ winters.
Breakfast is hands-down my favorite meal of the day. And, I love that it’s acceptable to eat it for dinner. Oatmeal, omlets, french toast…The list could go on forever. So many options for deliciousness to ensue!
