When I think of Christmas, one of the things I think of are minty flavors and smells. After starting to unload and organize all of our decorations yesterday, I was in the mood for something Christmasy. I decided to make a protein shake with a minty kick for dinner.
I kept it simple and just grabbed some cocoa powder and peppermint extract to get the desired effect. I used 1 tsp of peppermint extract which was quite powerful. I didn’t mind the extra kick but I could see how the taste might be a little too much for someone else so I would recommend a 1/2 tsp instead.
Clearly I can’t get enough of the PicMonkey effects ![]()
After I got most of the decorations unpacked and figured out where they’re all going to go, I hit up Pinterest to see what Christmas crafts struck my fancy. I saw this very easy one that I put together in about ten minutes while watching a rerun of One Tree Hill (man, did those kids spend an excessive amount of time in the emergency room).
Materials:
Round vase
Candy canes
Rubber band
Ribbon
I cleaned out a short, round vase that I had lying around the house. Next I wrapped a rubber band around the vase and tucked the candy canes between the rubber band and the vase. Once I got them all shimmied in there, I wrapped a long gold ribbon around the rubber band and tied a big box to cover the rubber band. I didn’t have anything to put in the vase so for now it’s just a centerpiece.
I have a few other crafting ideas up my sleeve but those will have to wait until the rest of the decorations get put up. I mainly focused on the inside since it was a little chilly outside today.
I did manage to put together one of our new lawn decorations that we picked up last year on clearance after Christmas.
Not bad for an afternoon’s work if I do say so myself. Now we just need to get the outside done and decorate the tree once we get around to picking one up. I am looking forward to making a few new decorations since we aren’t planning on buying any this year.
Even Daisy got in on the holiday spirit as she requested that I help her put on her Christmas sweater.
She’s such a good sport ![]()
Question:
Have you started decorating yet or do you wait until December? I feel like we usually wait until December but Thanksgiving was a little early this year.
Have you found any great Christmas crafts on Pinterest or somewhere similar? Please share!!

It doesn’t feel like Christmas at all to me but I’m so excited for it! Love all of your decorations
I’m not sure that it quite feels like Christmas yet either, but I have no problem pushing the issue! lol
I just bought a “rocket blender” on Amazon and I’m so excited to finally try out some of your smoothie recipes! This mint one sounds delish.
I love the candy cane centerpiece! That legit looks Sarah proof. I don’t do a whole lot of decorating around my apartment — mainly because I doubt really have any decorations — but my roommate does get a big (real!!) tree! I decorate tons at my parents’ house, though.
