I feel like it has been October for a long time but it still seems crazy that it’s already November (or as I like to call it, pre-Christmas). There have only been two snowfalls so far and the weather has been very mild. It’s been a nice break from the blistering heat that we couldn’t shake all summer.
This month there was tons of pumpkin happening (as I’m sure you’ve seen everywhere else as well!).
Pumpkin in the recipes:
- Homemade Pumpkin Granola
- Whole Wheat Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bars
- Homemade Dog Treats
- Whole Wheat Pumpkin Pancakes
There was lots of pumpkin in the grocery stores!
And even pumpkins as decorations!
The cooler weather made me want to bake… And bake and bake! I reused some old recipes and found some new ones that were winners. Some were treats and some were nutritious meals- it’s all about balance!
- Baked Pasta with Chicken Parm Meatballs
- Cheesy Italian Bread
- Tomato Soup with Chicken Parm Meatballs
- Baked Buffalo Chicken Wings
- Crockpot Rotisserie Chicken
- Apple Spice Cupcakes
- Apple Fritters
There were a few new protein smoothie and shakes that I tried out and they continue to be my go-to breakfast choice.
There were a couple weddings:
And lots of different workouts!
- CrossFit at Home
- Halloween 5K
- Stability Ball Circuit Workout
- Phase 2 of This Fit Chick’s 12 week program
- October Yoga Challenge
The yoga challenge went pretty well over all. I managed to do the planned two session every week (except Week 2 when I apparently forgot about the challenge altogether, oops!) and it was a nice way to break up my workouts. I stuck with Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown and mostly went with the Level 2 workout which left me feeling more limber and a little sore the following day.
I’m glad to be done with the challenge but I will definitely be trying this one again in the future. I think the best part for me was that it reminded me to stretch more on days even without the yoga which is something I am always trying to work on. Overall, I would call this challenge a success!
Oh man, just writing this recap made me tired! This was a busy month and we did so much fun stuff. I’m looking forward to seeing what November will bring. I already have a few things planned and I’m sure lots more will come up. Doing these monthly recaps are a cool way to look back on what I did for the past few weeks, but it also shows me what I did a good job of and what needs improvement.
In November, I want to focus more on workouts and running. I think I did a good job of meals but ended up with lots of baked goods around the house. I decided to give myself a challenge- No Sweets November!
I’m still planning on doing some baking and experimenting in the kitchen, but making a conscious decision not to sample all the treats myself. If anyone wants to join me, feel free to use my button above on your sidebar!
Have you ever given anything up before or consciously decided to avoid something for a period of time? The only thing I can think of is Lent and the couple of years I was a vegetarian.
What are your favorite things about November?
